Haikuware is a software repository, hardware database, bounty collector, news website, social networking website and much more for users of the Haiku Operating System. It's a website which hopes to bring coherence and clarity to those that are testing Haiku and who don't know what software works on Haiku, or where to find it. It is supposed to be simply designed and easy to use - if it's not, we'll fix it!

Community members that have tested software on Haiku and have gotten it working, can upload software (with permission and credit where due) to this server, and may also make any comments or include a 'how to' in order to get the given software to work. The goal is to have a database of Haiku compatible software.

Another goal, is to centralize the software all on one server, so that disasters at other websites don't happen where people link their files and then later delete them, or, they upload the files to free servers that disappear - hopefully this will resolve that problem. Haikuware may become increasingly important after R1, since binary compatibility with BeOS R5 will be broken thereafter.

Besides being a software site, Haikuware fosters the community spirit that its members are well known for. There are several tools on the website which encourage communication and connection between members. Haikuware is always open to suggestions and volunteers from the community in order to improve this website.

If you're a developer that has developed software for Haiku, or you're a user that has found Haiku compatible software, it's easy to add software to Haikuware - so start sharing today!

Note, Haikuware is meant for the end user and hosts x86 binaries only at this point. Please consider using osdrawer, sourceforge, gforge, or another solution to host the source code for your project. If your chosen license requires (i.e GPL, LGPL), please provide a URL where your sources are held, and include it in the file's description.

You can also help developers out by letting them know what hardware you have, and if possible, if the software/drivers they have written work on your sysetm, by filling out our hardware compatibility list. You may also want to further Haiku's development by contributing to a code bounty .

About Haiku

About:

Haiku is an open source operating system currently in development designed from the ground up for desktop computing. Inspired by the Be Operating System (archived website), Haiku aims to provide users of all levels with a personal computing experience that is simple yet powerful, and void of any unnecessary complexities. Find more information in our Hiki.

Why Haiku?:

As a tool, software is a means to an end, and not an end in itself. The Be Operating System introduced progressive concepts and technologies that we believe represent the ideal means to the end of desktop computing. Haiku will be the realization of those concepts and technologies in the form of an operating system that is open source and free.

Who We Are:

Haiku is developed mostly by volunteers around the world in their spare time. Besides the project admins and core members, Haiku also exists thanks to the dedicated support of a fervent and friendly community , and that of Haiku Inc ., a non-profit organization founded by project leader Michael Phipps with the purpose of supporting the development of Haiku.
