AHCI & SATA Driver Bounty
(7 votes)

Description

AHCI & SATA Driver Bounty - Status: Completed!
Developer:  Marcus Overhagen
Deadline: December 1st, 2007
Funds distributed:
$1093.76 USD

The AHCI & SATA driver bounty is here to bring modern hard drive support to Haiku. It is one of the sore spots in Haiku's saga to bring hardware support to modern architectures - hopefully we can help.

Full implementation of AHCI is expected, and at least one chipset driver (from Intel, VIA, or Nvidia - hopefully all three) to demonstrate its operation.

It may be possible to port over drivers from Linux, FreeBSD or Syllable for use in Haiku.

Interesting... Looks like 'Colacoder' has been busy: 'Initial work for a driver supporting the pre-AHCI SATA controllers. Currently implemented: VIA & ALI. nForce is on the TODO list smilies/wink.gif'

I'm sure he's aware (he's a Haikware member after all). I don't know, it doesn't make sense, why a Haiku developer wouldn't apply for it. The funds in the bounty don't automatically get forwarded to Haiku if it fails. The funds can be refunded to the contributor. And if one contributor decided he wanted his money back from the SATA bounty, say the one who contributed $1000, well there wouldn't be much left. So, if a developer is working on it anyways, I think it would make sense to apply for it - even if he doesn't want the money, he could donate successfully completed bounty proceeds to Haiku, I'm sure they could find a use for it.

I would have expected the cups port bounty to be claimed as well for the same reason.

Hi Peeps,

My legacy_sata driver is for pre-AHCI SATA chipsets, i.e. the kind of chipsets that ZETA also supports. This bounty specificly talks about AHCI, and AFAIK M. Overhagen (aka dr_evil) was working on that. I'm just trying to make sure that people with slightly older SATA chipsets will be able to boot Haiku too smilies/smiley.gif

HTH,

Ithamar.

I would like to thank everyone who donated for this bounty.

Although we didn't reach the target of 10000 $, I decided to do the driver.
Unfortunately, nobody else applied for it, so I did it myself to run Haiku on my new system.

Please also see my answer in this thread http://www.haikuware.com/news/...or-testing
