If I were to take on the interest of coding in BeOS, where would be a good start, and would C++ be a good language to begin with if my goal is to some day hope to port apps and maybe later games should I get the hang of it.
I've only had some experience in old Atari Turbo Basic, and ACS and Fraggle script for GzDOOM.

Yes we could say C++ is the beos lang.

As quick advice i would recommend u to take a look to any simple app skeleton and take a deep read to the bebook Application and Interface Kit

yeah u can compile it with the UserBuildConfig script. I believe there have been some changes to it lately so it should be easier to use.
