Question, if some software from beos R5 works with haiku does some haiku software work on BeOS R5?

Will be interested in trying haiku when first release cd iso is available it sounds good it looks good, unfortunately my pc has no space and is vmware incompatable. But saying that am currently attempting a full bash implementation on BeOS R5 ie: with autoconfig and automake and pkgconfig and any or all nix commandline tools when finished may release it if it isn't too buggy. cdrtools inclusive. Having recently got xffm compiled and running smoothly on opensuse 10.1 I am enthusiastic.

I know that you can build Haiku in R5 so any software that is built in R5 might work. I really don't know for sure as I am not a developer but I suspect that as long as the software doesn't use any Haiku-specific code in it then it should work.

It's worth a try, as not much open source exists for BeOS, I prefer not to use demo software which like on windows always runs out and poor people can't afford software. Unless it is mostly free.

Other news. bzip2 compiles okay on BeOS R5, unsure as to why it wasn't part of the terminal toolbase to start with apart from the quirky but closed zip format funzip fzip which appears to me to be bzip2 renamed and formated to produce not bz2 archives .?. automake doesn't however due to perl being weird if anybody knows how to compile perl correctly for BeOS without it spamming out at the last build hurdle due to generic make error 1. Please let me know. Mind you am using Linux From Scratch source code so I possibly need other release. Am Pleased to see that haiku appears to be leaning into a better nix standard layout but possibly with the added bonus of installing programs in their own folders which is the only reason someone like me uses windows from time to time, Linux I can have one version of each piece of software windows I can have nintey different versions of the same software because version one does something that version ten doesn't I liked beos for that as well, only was weirded out by lack of backward compatability ie R4 software didn't ussually work with R5, just a suggestion but when haiku reaches a near finished state make a backward compatability library so that all release beos software and all release haiku software works on it don't make the redhat and debian or kde mistake, ie : old operating systems and software in the linux stream often become obsolete simply because nobody thought about keeping up with system integrity.
