Gtk2/qt3/4 for Haiku. 2007/12/23 16:55 Karma: 0
I am interesting... Maybe to unlock bounty on port gtk2 or qt3/4 for Haiku. It's large projects , for many people (maybe students) and expensive, but the investment turned thanks to programmes for this(np.Gimp).

I'm more familiar with GTK and I know there are lots of apps that use it but how many apps does qt have compared to gtk? more or less?

I think the best one would be the one that will bring the most apps to Haiku.

What would the purpose of GTK be? For GIMP? I think you may find alot of resistance to porting to haiku, as I've seen before. Alot of people don't want this turning into another linux. Linux is great, I'm using it now, but Haiku is striving to be like BeOS, and BeOS was always much faster, more stable, and simply more easy to use. Not to mention FUN!! I like not having to worry about which window manager to use, or which package manager.
BeOS's graphics libraries are simple to manipulate , and software valet took the guess work out of software installation. As for GIMP, it is an awesome program for linux. But try Wonderbrush or Refraction for BeOS/Haiku. And as for QT, or GTK, try YAB for your GUI programming needs. If anything is ported from linux I would like to see NDISWRAPPER so we could begin wireless networking on haiku or BeOS. <--just my 2 cents.

I agree.

BeOS Interface Kit is just perfect for developing. And If GTK or QT would be ported BEFORE Haiku R1 the project could have problems. This libraries could make the OS heavier.
I think that the only lack of Haiku is a C API for developing GUIs.
And the only solution that I see is to port the EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Libraries).
Why EFL and don't GTK+ ?
Two reason:
1) EFL are very lightweight.
2) EFL are BSD-licenced.

Yes, there are few application developed with EFL, but using ETK (an EFL library) porting GTK+ application is very easy.
