About AddressBook:
This is a prototype personal information manager application which was
created as a project in the course Human Computer Interaction TDDB13 at
Linkopings Universitet in the Spring of 1999. The goal of the project
was to design a good user interface for an address book application.
Here is the result of that project.
A developer is needed to pick up this project where the original developers left off.
The source code is free to use, see
"LICENSE.TXT" in the .zip file. Also see the AdB-Documentation/
directory for project documentation or click on the home page link
above for the same documenation.
What has been implemented:
- Interface code
- Search: Type a letter in the "Last name" field and corresponding tab will be set in focus.
- Info/Status bar.
What remains to be implemented:
Background This prototype application was created as a project
in the course Human Computer Interaction TDDB13 at Linkopings
Universitet, spring 1999.
The project group consisted of:
- Jens Johansson - jenjo553@student.liu.se
- Kjell-Ove Axelsson - kjeax328@student.liu.se
- Mattias Andersson - matan655@student.liu.se
- Ulf Bayard - ulfba454@student.liu.se
Credits: The developers would like to thank Brian Tietz for the
excellent ColumnListView in his "Santa's Gift Bag" and Be, Inc., for
the BeOS operating system which both have made this prototype fun and
easy to develop. Thanks!
Project summary The task in this project was to design a good
user interface for an address book application on a notebook (the size
of an A4 sheet). The notebook would operate mainly by a stylus and is
connected wireless to the campus server.
The "ten usability heuristics states" that the address book prototype
should have the following properties to be considered a good design:
- Simple and natural dialogs
- Speak the user language
- Minimize user memory load
- Consistency
- Feedback
- Clearly marked exits
- Shortcuts
- Good error messages
- Prevent errors
- Help and documentation
Some of the functions in our high fidelity prototype are:
- Doing a search for a person, based on different attributes, in the address book or on the campus server.
- Adding and removing persons and contact groups to the address book application.
- Managing information about persons and contact groups.
- Contact a number of persons and groups by email or phone.
Thank you for taking a look at this code,
Jens Johansson
