About Eavesdropper:
XML reporting tool for gathering various tidbits about your computer,
and reporting this. Currently includes modules for trivia about your
system, and SoundPlay's most recently played songs (formerly known as
PlayLog).
Eavesdropper
is a very simple server-style program that maintains info about your
machine. That's a very vague answer, I'm aware, but its intentional -
the information it gathers is really determined by the "modules" (not
really plugins) it runs. These modules either directly gather
information themselves, or ask other external apps (such as SoundPlay,
via the included PlayLog plugin). This information is then reported
back by eavesdropper.client, which isn't much of a program; it simply
returns the XML output of all available, reporting modules that
eavesdropper.server manages to run.
This distribution also includes instructions on how one might propagate
this data out to a remote webserver for inclusion in something more
topically and aesthetically pleasing, like a weblog.
Check out the "screenshots" link above for a live site using this stuff - my blog!
Later research pointed out PlayLog's similarity to "BlogAmp" for Windows.
Details about this version:
Fixed a bug in SoundPlayModule that failed to wipe clean the module's
state before each successive invocation, thus, the song list would get
infinitely large.
