Just wanted to clarify that all the content on the Haiku website are contributions from volunteers, this one included. A few of the individuals that post news/blogs/docs etc. there may be involved in running Haiku Inc., but many are not. What's important is that, regardless of whether an individual is involved with Haiku Inc. or not, we are all basically the same: just volunteers dedicating our spare time to Haiku; oh, and we all have names. smilies/wink.gif

I mention this here in an attempt to dispel any misconception that may be out there that contribute content to the website is restricted to people involved in running Haiku Inc.. This is not the case: if anyone wants to volunteer posting Haiku-related content to the Haiku website, they are welcome to do so. It is also actually quite easy: just go to www.haiku-os.org, click on the SUBMIT icon in the upper right hand side of the page (below the menus), and follow the instructions there. If you are a developer and would like to have a Haiku-related blog in the Haiku Blog-O-Sphere (www.haiku-os.org/blog), let us know and we can make arrangements.

Cheers.

PS: would be nice to have a comment preview.

How to test this decoder/encoder?

The readme says where to install the addons (that are in the Haiku folder). I guess it should then decode most divx files right in Haiku's media player. I'm not sure if Haiku has its own divx/mp4 decoder?

Hmm, I downloaded a video off of Google Video, then encoded it in Mac OS X using 3ivx's encoder via Quicktime... (Haiku/BeOS' 3ivx encoder says cannot execute binary, even though the permissions are correct).

Anyways, I tried playing the file in Haiku and it played. If you look at the file info via MediaPlayer though, it's handled by Haiku's decoder 'libavcodec'. I removed libavcodec out of its default directory, but MediaPlayer still uses it and is able to play the file. So... I don't know how to test it! Anybody?

I'm running some tests and will of course post all results as this is probably one of the most important pieces of BeOS software in my collection.

Thanks Karl for your tries. I know that there is no encoder now. I just wanna know if the codec is running and how. I will test it in R5 and Zeta. For HAIKU I think it is to early, without finished Media Kit.

From Haiku Website (http://www.haiku-os.org/news/2...u#comm ent)
Haiku versions of the 3ivx decoder and aac decoder are expected to be supported in the future, and a Haiku-specific 3ivx encoder will be released once encoding support is added to the Haiku Media Kit.

The haiku 3ivx.decoder should go into the plugins directory on haiku. home/config/add-ons/media/plugins from memory.

The BeOS 3ivx decoder should go into home/config/add-ons/media/decoders

You may need to restart the media server after any changes to the available decoders

This should allow MediaPlayer to play files using 3ivx.

shouldn't the haiku decoder work from the terminal though? it always returns 'cannot execute binary file'.. Actually, all the 3ivx binaries say that for me.

The decoders are plugins for the Media Kit. They only work through programs like MediaPlayer, VideoPro etc.

Fixed the first one http://www.archive.org/details...miga_CD32, I was not handling mono audio very well

The second one is a bit trickier, video is ok, but the audio track index is not working for me.

If you e-mail me dlmcpaul AT gmail DOT com I will send you the latest MP4 extractor to try.

Amazing!!! I was not expecting results...

...not that I doubt your coding ability, but because MP4's can be damn hard to convert even under Windows for some reason.

I will send an E-mail here in a bit, then I'm off to church, will be back later to experiment!

Thankx again!
