About Helios:
CD burner app for BeOS written by Maurice Michalski.
Sorry, but I am no longer maintaining Helios.
This is due to personal concerns that have taken me away from BeOS (and
currently from computers in general). All donated hardware will be
returned to those who provided it, or passed on to any prospective new
maintainer (whichever the donating party decides). Maurice will be
resuming ownership of the code so please direct email queries to him.
IMPORTANT: Requires cdrtools for BeOS to function. - Always use the latest version (use link below).
Additional Credits
- Das Jott for polishing up the packages (providing a splash
screen, adding Be menu links and tidying up the user info text for the
installer).
- Michael Weirauch of yellowTab for providing several useful enhancements to Helios for this version.
- Mattia Tristo for a superb new Italian translation file.
- Super Sutter for much patient testing and the background images.
Tips:
- Make sure that you enable BurnProof on the "cdrecord switches"
section of the Settings panel - for drives with such a capability.
- Try to make the buffer as big as possible (32MB is the maximum and works well for me).
- Try to set the recording speed as high as possible.
- I would also recommend trying Disc-at-Once both ON and OFF if you have problems.
- Also, if you get lots of failed burns, try moving the Burn Priority slider (Settings/General) to "High".
- If all else fails, obtain the cdrecord Test Plan document from the
cdrtools link at the bottom of this page, and send the result back to
me for fixing!!
ABOUT DVD BURNING: DVD burning is not currently supported -
please contact Jörg Schilling, the author of cdrtools, to request his
cdrecord-ProDVD on BeOS (see my link at the bottom of this page, and
then follow the "home page" link to go to his web site. His email
address is near the bottom of the page).

Details about this version:
- Language support on R5 once again! (See README file for further details).
- Burning Priority Setting (General section of Helios Settings).
- Some more minor tweaks to the code underneath (so always good to test things, and send bug reports to me!!!)
- Filesystem for new projects now defaults to Windows Joliet -
filenames are better under this (NOTE: this only applies to FRESH
installs of Helios - see readme).
- New README file (also included is the CHANGES file). You are advised to read this. |
