Query Shell Scripts Download

About Query Shell Scripts:

This archive contains three shell scripts for working with Be
file attributes. 'Showattr' lists each attribute and its content for
each file on the command line or read from stdin; it is trivial,
although the sed script inside it borders on black magic. 'Findattr'
slowly, but thoroughly, finds *every* file that has the specified
attribute with the specified value. 'Vquery' allows one to run queries
similar to Be's 'Find', but allow for much more complex queries; it
doesn't care about the syntax you use; it just dumps it into the query
attribute. However, Be's 'Find' *is* quite particular and quite snooty;
if it doesn't like the syntax you used, it will turn its nose up and do
nothing. And while the correct syntax really isn't documented, it *can*
be discerned by using showattr to see the contents of the query
attributes 'Find' creates.
Each script prints a usage statement when run with no arguments.
Installation is a matter of dragging the three scripts to
/boot/home/config/bin (and ensuring that that directory is in your PATH
- this is left as an exercise for the student.)
There is no difference between the PPC and Intel versions. (After all, they *are* shell scripts!)
Details about this version:
I've only run this on BeOS R4.5/Intel. However, they should work
just fine on BeOS R4 and most likely will run on BeOS R3. And they
should work hokey-dokey on PPC.
